Set in New York City in the early 1980s, The Normal Heart features a group of friends in New York City whose lives are shattered due to the rapid onset of HIV and AIDS. Together, the friends work to raise nationwide awareness about the epidemic.
HBO's version stars Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Corey Stoll, Alfred Molina and Jim Parsons (who also starred in the Broadway show), among others.
