In Treatment will not return for a fourth season, TVGuide.com has confirmed.
"It's true that we have no plans to continue with In Treatment as previously formatted," the network said in a statement. "However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories."
Starring Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne as psychotherapist Paul Weston, HBO's therapy drama featured a revolving door of patients, played by the likes of Blair Underwood, Embeth Davidtz, Josh Charles, Hope Davis and John Mahoney, among others. Dianne Wiest played Weston's own therapist and mentor.
The Season 3 finale in December averaged 279,000 viewers, down from the 446,000 viewers who watched the series premiere. To be fair, HBO's adaptation lasted one season longer than the Israeli series on which it is based.
