Thirty-seven years after guest-starring on the original Hawaii Five-0as a cop who just happened to be a gang lord's doppelgänger, Star Trek's George Takei will turn up on the CBS reboot's December 17 episode as Chin Ho's sketchy Uncle Choi.
"He's doing something illegal, not unlike the character I played in the '70s," says Takei, who worked with a Samoan dialect coach to perfect an authentic Hawaiian accent.
While that proved daunting, the scariest part of Takei's island experience was a discovery he made in the Ka'a'awa Valley, where his character lives. In the run-down shack producers rented for Uncle Choi's home, the actor says he found "an NRA magazine, a photo of a blond Aryan youth and a portrait of Mr. Adolf Hitler! It was weird!" McGarrett, keep an eye on that hut!
