Well this news makes me more than just Happyish.

The West Wing's Bradley Whitford has joined the cast of the new Showtime comedy, the network announced Friday.

Described as a "scathing examination of our pursuit of happiness," Happyish was first announced last winter with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in the lead role of Thom Payne. It was announced in October that the show, which had been ordered to series in April, would be moving back to the pilot stage and Steve Coogan would be taking over for Hoffman.

8 bubble shows: Which will survive?

Whitford, who most recently starred on ABC's Trophy Wife, will play Jonathan Cooke. He's Thom's boss and an "advertising industry legend whose success is due in equal parts to his creative genius and moral cravenness." Rhys Ifans played the role in the original pilot.

Kathryn Hahn is set to return as Thom's wife, Lee, when the pilot begins shooting in December.

What do you think of Whitford's casting?
