HAIL TO THE KING

King Kong doesn't hit theaters until Dec. 14, but film critics for the New York Daily News are already going ape over Peter Jackson's epic retelling. Having seen a Monday-night screening, Jami Bernard calls it "the most thrilling, soulful monster picture ever made. In short, it's brilliant," while Jack Mathews says it delivers "exhilarating action sequences, raucous humor and romance of both human and bestial variety," the sum total of which "will further Jackson's reputation as the leading visionary among fantasy filmmakers."
