Single Santa's on the Prowl!
For years, Steve Guttenberg has charmed us in comedies like Police Academy and Short Circuit and heart-warmers like Three Men and a Baby and Cocoon. On Saturday night, he'll star as Nick — as in St. Nick Jr. — in Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (9 pm/ET on Hallmark Channel). Not only is his character destined to inherit Santa's sack of gifts, he's gotta woo and win Wings alumna Crystal Bernard as his missus.
Sorry to be un-PC for the holidays, but isn't Santa a little, well, plump to compete for this hottie's affections in today's ab-obsessed dating scene? Perhaps he's gonna do a little treadmill time on The Biggest Loser before they meet?
"I'm the more streamlined Santa," Guttenberg laughs to TV Guide Online. "I'm still jovial, but I'm a junior Santa. You know that in 20 years, I'll pack on about 100 pounds from eatin' jelly beans and sippin' on sodas. With a little good cookin' I'll become big, fat Santa someday. Oh yeah."
The
Single Santa shoot wasn't exactly rough on the well-fed cast, who can at least blame their extra holiday pounds on work. "You see me eating a lot in the movie," Guttenberg says. "Santa
loooves hot chocolate. Actually, [Hallmark Channel] had some of the best craft-service tables you've ever seen. It's dangerous, but it's a good danger. I'd reward myself with a banana split at the end of the day."
