What's a poor, powerless Hexenbiest to do?
When Grimmreturns for its third season Friday (9/8c, NBC), Nick's Scooby gang will still be battling zombies, but Adalind Schade (Claire Coffee) has more important matters to take care of: getting her Hexenbiest mojo back! Thanks to that annoying Grimm (David Giuntoli), Adalind lost her witchy powers.
Exclusive: Who does Grimm's Claire Coffee think could kick her character's butt?

But any self-respecting, law-trained Wesen hungry for world domination will have a plan in place, and Adalind is no different. She just also happens to be pregnant by one member of the royal family, and we need Grimm's version of Jerry Springer to know whether Sean (Sasha Roiz) or Eric (James Frain) is the daddy. "A confrontation [with Nick] is probably inevitable now that she has one of the royal family's spawn in her belly," Coffee tells TVGuide.com. "But I think in the beginning of the season, she's not even concerned about Nick. She thinks that she can get it all taken care of in Vienna: birth the baby, sell the baby, get those powers back."

How much of Adalind's identity is wrapped up in her powers?
Claire Coffee:
I think all of it right now. That was the hardest thing for her when losing her powers was that she felt really unhinged. She has no allies, no family, no friends, so until she gets those powers back, she's floating.
Is Shohreh Aghdashloo's character Stefania still around when we return?
Coffee:
Yes she is. Shohreh is the direct link to getting those powers back because she's the one who knows the rituals. She has all of the spells and potions to get her there. So Adalind needs Stefania more than ever.
Mermaids! Wu suffers! And 6 more things to know about Grimm Season 3
What details about the rituals can you share?
Coffee:
You'll see that the first episode of the season is when we have Frau Pech (Mary McDonald-Lewis), whom Stefania, at the end of Season 2, has murdered with a sword through the chest. So Adalind comes at the beginning of Season 3 to meet up with Stefania in order to complete that process. So we know that we need a beating heart of a Hexenbiest in order to get those powers. And that's just the beginning.
Did you get to see the beating heart?
Coffee:
Yes, it looks like a real-life beating heart. They have this apparatus that they use. Christina [Kortum], who is our on-set creature makeup. She's blowing into it.
What is Adalind thinking when it comes to what she could potentially do with this baby?
Coffee
: Right now, this baby is her bargaining chip, so it's the most valuable thing that she has in trying to get back her identity, which is a valuable thing.
How hormonal will we see Adalind now that she's been human for a while and now is pregnant? Will we see the softer side of Adalind?
Coffee:
I'm still waiting for the odd pregnancy cravings and hormones to rear their ugly head. I think aside from Adalind's day-to-day b----iness, I guess I would describe her as a little petulant. She just wants to get her way. She's used to getting her way and now that she isn't, she finds that very frustrating. But I haven't seen any Wesen hormones acting up yet. But there are few side effects that happen that don't have anything to do with hormones, but there are some pretty graphic side effects because of this pregnancy.

Are we going to get to see any kind of baby bump?
Coffee:
Barney [Burman], our head creature creator, came up and painted me with silicone in order to take a plaster cast of my body. So he'll begin building the bumps from that. So I will be growing. It's exciting for me because that means I get to eat more ice cream. It seems like every episode before that has these [bare] stomach shots, abs shots, so once I have that baby bump on, all bets are off.
You're trying to give Sasha Roiz a run for his money with his #ShirtlessRage...
Coffee:
True! #AbsofRage
Now that her mom is gone (thanks, Grimms!), Adalind truly is alone. Will she get any friends this season?
Coffee:
Right. Instead of trying to make friends, she's going to try to take over the world. But aside from Stefania, there are some things shifting in the royal family, so she's coming into contact with different royals. Something will happen to a member of the royal family.
Will we see more of the lawyer side of Adalind anymore?
Coffee:
Now she's acting as counsel for the royal family, but I don't know that I've actually done any cases for them. Plenty more pencil skirts and black jackets are coming though.
Which shows are on the bubble?
It does seem like she has a rather plain uniform, even though Adalind is so fiery in personality. How is the costuming for you on Grimm?
Coffee:
My character is very monochromatic. Alexandra [Welker] who does the wardrobe is always trying to get in a little pop of color, even just a light purple, and it's always nixed. It's black for the most part. But Adalind has fantastic footwear! If the heels were any higher, I'd probably develop ankle injuries. The wardrobe is completely different from my real-life attire so it really feels like I'm putting on a character. I've been trying to get red lips in there. We're working with that.
You were on Royal Pains recently in the episode "Pregnant Paws" playing an animal lover. On Grimm, your cat scratched Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) and put her into a magical coma!
Coffee:
I was so hard for me not to tell people when I was shooting how ironic the role was because my character in Royal Pains was sick because she got scratched by a cat and got Cat Scratch Fever. So it was a comeuppance for me.
Many of these Wesen are based on animals. Which animal do you identify with the most?
Coffee:
When I was in college, the first thing we did in acting class was to observe an animal at the zoo and become that animal. So I picked a wallaby. Otherwise, I was always obsessed with koalas [while] growing up. Anything that's kind of quiet and likes to be by itself, I like that sort of animal.
