He signed up for one kid and ended up with three

Of everyone set up for a roller coaster in Grey's Anatomy's upcoming "Season of Love," Owen (Kevin McKidd) will be dealing with a lot, and not just romantically. Last season, the head of trauma surgery became a foster father to an infant baby boy. Then, after he took in that baby's mother as a roommate, his ex showed up back in town and pregnant with (probably) his baby. It's a lot, you guys.

"The funny irony is that Owen just wanted one kid and now he's kind of got three," Kevin McKidd told TV Guide and a small group of reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour ABC party. "I think he's going to be a little vapor locked, for a while. I think he's going to be wide eyed, and kind of rabbit in the headlights -- just dealing with all this stuff."

Grey's Anatomy: The Season of Love Will Be a Bit of a Curse for Owen and His Love Triangle

It's a strange time for the character, who has been yearning to be a father since Season 10 before Cristina (Sandra Oh) left to make artificial hearts in Europe. Since then, Owen has struggled to find a stable partner who is ready to settle down and start a family with him. He's still looking for that actually, and will inevitably have to decide between Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Teddy (Kim Raver) at some point this season. In the meantime, he's dealing with his rapidly expanding personal life as best he can.

"It means everything to be a valid father. But I think what's interesting is seeing the circumstances that this is happening [in]...Owen has dreamed and yearned for being a father for all these years and he always imagined it would be in this perfect picture postcard American dream way. But that isn't always what the universe gives you," McKidd said.

Can Owen hold on to his sanity and his expanding family at the same time?

Grey's Anatomy premieres Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8/7c on ABC.
