Grey's Anatomy Recap: Will Meredith and Derek Have Another Baby?

And who's having PTSD?

There may be yet another Shepherd coming to Grey Sloan Memorial - and a very tiny one, at that.

On Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are seen in a flashback, discussing the possibility of having a third child. Of course, that would probably require Derek to be back in Seattle and not MIA. But before we get to that ...

The case of the week is a plane crash, which the docs get advanced warning about because Webber (James Pickens Jr.) witnesses the aircraft going down as he's driving to work.

While they're waiting for the patients to come in, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) reiterates to Owen (Kevin McKidd) that she doesn't want to mix "work and play" (ouch), and his pride is stung enough that he huffily agrees with her.

Meredith - who's stressed out enough after calling Derek to find out why he missed his meeting in D.C. - only gets more anxious when she starts having repeated flashbacks to her own plane crash. You remember, the one that resulted in Lexie and Mark's deaths (and Arizona's amputated leg). She desperately seeks out Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) who's having a panic attack in a supply closet, for reassurance.

But plane crash flashbacks aren't the only memories that are coming back to Meredith. Throughout the episode, she remembers sweet pillow talk with Derek about topics including her snoring (which Derek likens to a train, but in a charming way), Zola's request for Derek to bring her back a car from D.C., and Derek's desire for another baby (!!).

Back at the hospital, Arizona is in double shock because, wouldn't you know, the plane crashed into a prenatal yoga class. (Only on Grey's, folks. Only on Grey's.) Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) and Jo (Camilla Luddington), on the other hand, are simply gleeful to have such a massive trauma on their hands, especially after Stephanie learns that two of the plane crash victims were a couple on what sounds like a "How About We" first date, and who are now smitten with each other. (This either bodes horribly for their relationship, or will be a really good story to tell at their wedding.)

The male half of the couple vows to marry his date and, obviously, promptly codes. But, between the plane crash and radio silence from Derek, Meredith is unable to concentrate properly in the OR as she's operating on him, and gets reprimanded by Bailey (Chandra Wilson).

Elsewhere, Owen and Amelia are butting heads over ... well, just about everything, and Webber is thrilled to recount his own version of the crash to anyone and everyone who will listen. And Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Jo, for the first time, hear the full story about the plane crash that Meredith and Arizona were involved in years ago. This is also evidently the first time Maggie has heard about her half-half-sister(?) Lexie. But she doesn't have a lot of time to reflect upon the new information, as she's called in to assist with First Date Guy, who suffers a rupture on the operating table. Maggie, Bailey and Meredith are at a loss of what to do with First Date Guy, whose name is Sam, until Maggie suggests using glue. (Um ... is this actually a thing?) Regardless, it works and it looks like Sam may live to see another date.

But, as luck would have it, First Date Girl, whose name is Kate, has temporary memory loss after the crash. Stephanie reacts to this development even more poorly than Kate does, worrying that the spark between the new couple may have been extinguished for good. (Can we say projection?) She begins aggressively quizzing Kate, who appears to remember everything leading up to the moment she got on the plane. This leads to a three-way yelling match between Stephanie, Amelia and Owen, with Stephanie finally admitting that she's hanging her hopes of ever finding true love on Kate and Sam.

Suffering a different type of memory lapse is Webber, who embellishes his plane crash narrative more and more with every retelling. Once his story strays into ridiculous territory, as he begins describing the panic in the pilot's eyes, he gets a well-deserved tongue-lashing from April (Sarah Drew). He tells April that he considers the whole thing a near-death experience. It's a stretch, but whatever Webber needs to put his life in perspective, I guess.

Meredith, meanwhile, is counting down the minutes until her 5 p.m.deadline (when, according to Bailey, she is officially allowed to "freak out" about Derek's absence).

Stephanie, being the hopeless romantic that she is, wheels Kate into Sam's room in an effort to jog her memory. Initially, it doesn't work, but just as Amelia's about to fire Stephanie, something clicks in Kate's mind and she remembers that Sam brought sandwiches to their ill-fated first outing. I really hope Stephanie at least gets an invitation to the wedding.

After being snippy with Alex all day, Arizona apologizes to Alex (Justin Chambers), who tells her that he was the one who amputated her leg, not Callie (Sara Ramirez). When she confronts Callie with the information, Callie (who, earlier in the day, told Alex that she couldn't be Arizona's Person today, no matter how re-traumatized she was) says she let Arizona believe that she took her leg because she didn't want Arizona to hate Alex as well. And, it was Callie who ultimately made the call after all, even if she wasn't the one who made the cut. Sigh. #Calzona4Ever.

Later, Amelia triumphantly tells Owen that Kate's memory is returning in dribs and drabs, but gets the cold shoulder. She decides to put an end to Owen's hissy fit right then and there and pulls him into an on-call room so they can hash out their issues like adults. Owen admits that he's also been having PTSD, and still harbors a lot of guilt about signing off on the original plane before it crashed. He also tells Amelia that they should be just friends.

As the clock strikes 5 back at her and Derek's house, Meredith officially shifts into panic mode as she ponders why bad things happen to good people. So ... where is Derek? Saving car crash victims on the side of the road, by the looks of next week's promo!
