Itzin, nominated for an Emmy for his performance on the real-time drama, has signed on for a story arc in which sitting President Taylor (Cherry Jones) reluctantly enlists Logan to assist with an escalating international diplomatic crisis.

The ex-president was last seen in Season 6 when his wife, Martha Logan (Jean Smart), stabbed him, and he flatlined on his way to the hospital. At the start of Season 7, viewers learned Logan was alive and living under house arrest.

The on-screen pairing of both Jones and Itzin was something "simply too compelling to pass up," showrunner Howard Gordon said.

Season 8, set in New York, will feature a retired Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) drawn back into the action after learning of a plot to assassinate Middle East peacekeeper Omar Hassa (Anil Kapoor of Slumdog Millionaire).

Katee Sackhoff, Mykelti Williamson and Freddie Prinze Jr. will join Annie Wersching and Mary Lynn Rajskub as CTU newcomers.
