Ugly Betty, True Blood Alum Grant Bowler to Star in Syfy's Defiance

Grant Bowler has landed the leading role in Syfy's new series Defiance, the network announced Tuesday.
According to the network's release, the science fiction series features a world where humans and aliens must learn to live together on an exotic new Earth that has been transformed by "alien terra-forming machines." Call it Cowboys & Aliens 2.0?
The Ugly Betty and True Blood alum will portray Jeb Nolan, a former marine who lost his family during the alien conflict. After wandering the dangerous wilds of the new world, Jeb becomes a lawman in a bustling frontier town.

"Grant's charismatic charm and his depth as an actor make him the perfect anchor as we build the ensemble for this sweeping adventure series," said Mark Stern, president of original content for Syfy. "We're very excited to have him join us on this incredible journey."
The series, slated to go into production in April, is written and executive produced by Rockne S. O'Brannon (Warehouse 13). Defiance will be paired with a multiplayer online game, which will run concurrently with the show.
