Jazz artist Esperanza Spalding pulled off the night's biggest upset, earning best new artist honors over Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence + The Machine and Mumford & Sons. She is the first jazz artist to win the award.
Train won the first award on the prime-time telecast, taking pop duo/group vocal for their live version of "Hey Soul Sister."
"Thanks, Justin Bieber, for not being a duo or group," frontman Pat Monahan said.
