Fox sure kept fans waiting, but the network announced on Sunday evening that Gotham will in fact return for a fifth and final season.

The DC series, which focuses on several iconic Batman characters, has slipping in the ratings over the years but always maintained an extremely passionate fanbase, many of which enjoy the series through delayed viewing. The series stars Ben McKenzie as Det. Gordon, David Mazouz as a young Bruce Wayne and Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin.

While Fox didn't announce an episode order for Gotham's final season, they did tease that the final season will focus on Bruce Wayne's transformation into the caped crusader.

Fox already canceled its other Monday night DC drama, Lucifer. The network also gave the ax to The Mick, The Last Man on Earth, The Exorcist and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was saved by NBC.
