The Good Wife: 5 Reasons Why Alicia's "Weak Moment" Is Bad for Business

Yes, Alicia (Julianna Margulies), you're kind of an idiot. Or at least the titular character on The Good Wife was kind of an idiot for a few seconds during Sunday's episode when she and her boss/ex-lover Will (Josh Charles) shared an intense kiss in the midst of a heated argument about her status as an equity partner at Lockhart Gardner. Although there are probably plenty of faithful "Willicia" 'shippers excited by the out-of-left-field move, for others — this reporter included — the angry lip-lock elicited a different reaction. After playing the will-they-won't-they game for two seasons and then diving head-first into a brief office romance early in Season 3, we couldn't help but think, "Really? This again?" Below we devised five reasons why the kiss is bad news.

1. That's not the way to win an argument. In the moments leading up to the kiss, Will and Alicia were yelling at each other about Alicia's "now you see it, now you don't" partnership offer. But instead of holding her ground and proving that she deserves to play with the big boys, Alicia quickly succumbed to Will the moment he leaned in for the kiss. Hey, we get it, passion is hard to deny. But in the long run, she now has to live with the why and how she was offered equity partnership and she has no one to blame but herself (and Will, who as Diane advised last year, really needs to learn how to keep his pants zipped).

2. She's now an equity partner. There's no ifs, ands or buts about it: Alicia is officially an equity partner at Lockhart Gardner. So while that whole sleeping-with-your-boss-on-your-lunch-break thing might have seemed exciting and dangerous in Season 3, now Alicia is in uncharted waters and needs to keep her head in the game. If she and Will had been formally found out before, a good chunk of the guilt would have been on him because he is a name partner. Now they're equals, for better and for worse. Alicia has to be even more careful now that there are several other fourth-year associates — sorry, Cary! — gunning for her spot at the big kids table.

3. The world, or at least the state of Illinois, is watching. One of the big reasons Alicia was made equity partner in the first place was because Peter (Chris Noth) could very well be the next Governor. In this heated gubernatorial campaign, which has played dirty on extremely personal issues such as religion and family, if something like this kiss got out, the Florrick name would be tarnished. Eli has always mentioned how much Alicia helps Peter's image, but if Saint Alicia falls from her pedestal in such a way, it's hard to imagine Peter surviving the scandal unscathed.

4. Alicia has plenty of other things to worry about. For a long time, Zach (Graham Phillips) was working on the campaign behind her back. Grace (Makenzie Vega) is cutting class and making out with an older student (!) who smokes in the bushes(!!). And Jackie (Mary Beth Peil) is still recovering from her stroke while Googling about types of condoms to use with her health aide. Does Alicia really need more on her plate? No.

5. Will likes Alicia more than she likes him. Apologies to Chicago's resident "bad boy of law," but that one time when he told Alicia he loved her on the phone during the affair will not be so easily forgotten. Alicia has had some sort of a sexual reawakening, but she still isn't completely lovey-dovey with Peter, at least from what we've seen. If she is still figuring out how to navigate her own marriage, it's extremely doubtful that she could be the loving, doting girlfriend Will secretly — or maybe no so secretly — wanted her to be when they were together.
