Good Wife Casts Role That "Immediately Impacts" Alicia, Executive Producer Says

Viewers are quite familiar with Alicia's marriage and children on The Good Wife, but little is known about the litigator's background. Look for that to change when her gay brother, Owen, visits next season and makes his presence felt right away.
"I think [creators and executive producers] Robert and Michelle [King] came up with a very sort of compelling and surprising way to introduce her brother into the world that immediately impacts [her] and Peter, and then gets us to explore a little bit of what their history was and how it pertains to their future," executive producer David W. Zucker tells TVGuide.com.

Owen, played by The L Word's Dallas Roberts, is set to appear in one episode early this season, but the part is possibly recurring. Either way, Owen will not only have an impact on Alicia's future, but will prove to be an important window to her past as one of her oldest confidants.

"What about Alicia's own familial experience informed the way she handled with situation with Peter, and her vigilance about protecting the children and the family first and foremost," Zucker said. "We were really interested in trying to start exploring, for Peter and Alicia, what that greater world is, especially as Peter is coming to the public eye in a different way now."

Now the big question is if — or when — Alicia's parents will make an appearance on the series. Zucker said there are no plans yet, but an appearance from mom and dad is possible.

"I think that, as in all of their families, we're going to start orienting to what that larger familial reality is and I think [Owen's] a great way to expose it and then we'll evolve from there."

The Good Wife returns on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 10/9c.
