Rich and famous though they may be, celebrities always love getting things free! When a Hollywood party runs out of gift bags — since stars only come out for photo ops, free booze and goodies — much grumbling is to be heard. Fortunately, there'll be no lack of freebies at several Tinseltown events happening this week, in anticipation of Sunday's glitzy Golden Globe Awards. Pre-awards pampering is a hot trend for luminaries who wanna get their glam on, gratis.
Luxury Lounge
This weekend, stars from Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Angels in America and other HBO hits will converge on the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. Why? Free stuff to wear on Sunday night! While sipping Moet & Chandon — the official champagne of the Globes — the Sex girls will each snatch up a $3,000 Maurice Lacroix Swiss watch. Sarah Jessica Parker will also get Erica Courtney "fan earrings" worth $600. They'll also be treated to soothing spa treatments, like mani pedis and massages. Hey, they need it! 'Cause being a Golden Globe nominee is, like, sooo stressful.
The Silver Spoon Hollywood Buffet
A two-day, 30,000-square-foot-long frenzy of freebies! Who's coming? Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, Hilary Duff, Scarlett Johansson, The West Wing's Allison Janney, Kim Cattrall, Monk's best actress nominee Bitty Schram and Angels in America's Justin Kirk. Word is, no star will leave with less than $5,000 worth of sponsor products. We're talking Mystic Tan for that "natural, sun-drenched California look" on the red carpet — without those nasty, melanoma-causing UV rays; camera-ready makeup from L'Oreal Paris; and some trendy Peace and Love jewelry by Nancy Davis. Oh, and microdermabrasion by Youthful Essence, lest those pesky paparazzi lenses zero in on your blackheads on the red carpet. (Yikes!) But it's not all shameless self-indulgence, kids. There'll also be an eBay charity auction of celebrity-autographed goodies to benefit Race to Erase MS.
BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party
The fine ladies and chaps at BAFTA — Britain's version of the Oscars — bring a bit of the U.K. to L.A. On Saturday, A-list awards-season nominees with smart accents will enjoy afternoon high tea at the posh St. Regis Hotel. That means Nicole Kidman liftin' her pinky and sippin' Earl Grey with the likes of Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and Cold Mountain helmer Anthony Minghella. Cheerio, Golden Globes!
