Monteith was found dead around noon on Saturday in a hotel in downtown Vancouver, Canada, but no further information on the cause of death was available. During a press conference with Canadian police on Saturday night, it was noted that Monteith had been deceased for some time before his body was found, but foul play was not suspected. Monteith checked into the hotel on July 6 and was expected to check out on Saturday.Police would not specify whether it was a drug overdose, but Monteith voluntarily admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction in March.

"We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate," a rep for the actor told TVGuide.com. "We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss." A rep for Monteith's girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele issued a statement on behalf of the actress Sunday, saying "We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time. Thank you."

The executive producers of Glee as well as Fox and 20th Century Fox also released a statement: "We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Monteith, who previously entered rehab for drug abuse when he was 19, was best known for playing Finn Hudson on the Fox musical dramedy. Monteith won a Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series with the Glee cast in 2009. His other credits include bit roles on Smallville, Supernaturaland Kyle XY.
