Girls’ Allison Williams Opens Up About Christopher Abbott’s “Unfortunate” Exit

Fans of HBO's hit comedy Girls were shocked when news broke that co-star Christopher Abbott would not be returning for Season 3. It turns out fans aren't the only ones upset about his sudden exit.

Abbott's departure "has had a huge impact on our show and [on the character of] Marnie specifically," star Allison Williams, who plays Marnie, tells TVLine.

"It's unfortunate that [Abbott] is no longer a part of the family. The minute I heard the news, there wasn't a single doubt in my mind that [our show's writing staff] would come up with great stuff for Marnie to be doing. And what we've done so far and what we're continuing to do is so excellent."

Abbott, who played Williams' boyfriend Charlie, left the show in April. At the time, The New York Post reported that he was clashing with show star and creator Lena Dunham during production on the show's upcoming third season.
