According to celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman, the rapper was selected out of 15,000 applicants who submitted their names after Zimmerman issued an open challenge.
The announcement comes on what would have been the 18th birthday of Trayvon Martin, the teenager Zimmerman was acquitted of murdering.
Like many others, DMX still bears anger toward Zimmerman and his acquittal. When the notion of fighting him first surfaced, DMX told TMZ he was "going to beat the living f--- out of him ... I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f--- him right up."
"Once I am done with him, I am going to whip my d--- out and piss on him ... right in his motherf---ing face," DMX added.
The match between Zimmerman and DMX will last three rounds. The date, time and location will be announced at a news conference next Wednesday.
