The Final Frontier: Roddenberrys' Ashes Going to Space

Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett-Roddenberry

Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and his wife, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, will fly into eternity together when their remains are shot into space next year.

Celestis Inc., which specializes in "memorial spaceflights," is preparing special capsules for the couple's cremated ashes, company spokeswoman Susan Schonfeld told The Associated Press. The capsules will include digitized fan tributes.

Gene Roddenberry passed away in 1991, and some of his ashes were shipped into space in 1997 at his wife's request. She died on Dec. 18.
