Game of Thrones Power Shift: Daenerys Gets a Hunk While Tyrion Gets Drunk

New additions to the family are a tricky thing onGame of Thrones.
On Sunday's episode, both Tyrion and Daenerys welcomed new members into their respective families. But while Daenerys acquired a strong and charismatic follower, Tyrion's fan club was sorely lacking. Who else felt the love? Who felt the loathing? TVGuide.com breaks down the power shifts in "Second Sons":

Power Tripping
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) The Mother of Dragons gets a son -- a Second Son, that is. When Daenerys meets with the three captains of the Second Sons, a group of mercenaries hired by the Yunkai, they're more keen on making her their whore than their ally. One captain, Daario Naharis (Ed Skrein), is smitten with her beauty, however, and turns on his two comrades. The rather handsome fellow meets with Dany as she's naked in the bathtub to deliver their heads and pledge his sword, life and love (already?!) to her cause.
Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) Not quite as charming, but still devastingly disarming, the Lannister patriarch witnesses one of his schemes carried out: the marriage of his son Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) to Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), thus establishing a Lannister claim to the north should anything happen to Robb Stark (Richard Madden). Also, through Cersei below, we learn a little bit more of Tywin's history of violence.
Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) Cersei may soon be displaced as the main woman in the king's life and forced to marry against her wishes, but she's not just going to pretend she's fine with it. Even though the Tyrells have the rest of King's Landing seduced, she makes it very clear to Margaery (Natalie Dormer) that they're not going to be BFFs by telling her the story behind the song, "The Rains of Castamere." Apparently back in the day, House Reyne rebelled against the Lannisters, so Lord Tywin had their entire family slain and the bodies displayed in public as a warning to all who defied him. Point taken, scary future sister-in-law!

Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) Ser Piggy is victorious! When a White Walker shatters his sword, Sam pulls out his dragonglass dagger in a last-ditch attempt to save Gilly (Hannah Murray). The dagger somehow does the trick, causing the creature to scream and disintegrate.
Power Failure
Tyrion Lannister The Imp gets royally toasted -- in more ways than one -- at his mockery of a wedding. His dad lectures him on his marital duties to produce an heir, but his bride is still a child. Worse yet, his pissant nephew King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) creates two demeaning situations: First, when he removes the stool that would have helped Tyrion drape the ceremonial cloak over his bride during the wedding, and then later, when Tyrion is forced to self-deprecatingly belittle his own manhood after publicly threatening the king. Is it any wonder he drowns himself in wine? Halfman humiliation complete.
Sansa Stark Not to be outdone, Sansa has a wretched wedding day as well, thanks to her drunk groom and of course, Joffrey, who just loves to terrorize her. In a private conversation, he basically promises/threatens to rape her and impregnate her.
Arya Stark (Maisie Williams)Once again, the youngest Stark girl finds herself held hostage for ransom, but this time by The Hound (Rory McCann). Although he reveals that he once saved her sister from getting raped once, that doesn't change his past misdeeds or mean he's returning her to her family out of the goodness of his heart. It's just like the Brotherhood all over again!

Gendry (Joe Dempsie) Oh, poor bastard! The former blacksmith's apprentice thinks he has it made when Melisandre (Carice van Houten) brings him to Dragonstone, plies him with wine and then starts writhing, naked all over him. But it's not a tryst she wants but that royal blood she's been nattering on about. As he's in the throes of desire, she fastens him to the bed and then drops three leeches on him ... yes, one down there. While he's still in this compromising position, King Stannis (Stephen Dillane) takes the leeches and drops them into the fire, naming each after three usurpers to the Iron Throne: Robb Stark, Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) and Joffrey Baratheon. Flame-broiled leeches? Um, yeah, how is that supposed to demonstrate the power of Gendry's royal blood again?

Lady Olenna (Diana Rigg) to Loras (Finn Jones) and Margaery about their marriages: "Loras will be king's stepfather and brother-in-law. Margaery, when you marry the king, Joffrey's mother will become his sister-in-law, and your son will be Loras' nephew, grandson ... I'm not sure. But your brother will become your father-in-law. That much is beyond dispute."
Tyrion to Sansa: "It is my wedding night. My tiny drunk c--- and I have a job to do... I vomited on a girl once in the middle of the act, not proud of it. But I think honesty is important between man and wife, don't you agree? Come, I'll tell you all about it, put you in the mood."
