Who Lived and Who Died in the Game of Thrones Series Finale

[Warning: The following contains spoilers for the series finale of Game of Thrones. Read at your own risk!]

After a scorching penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, the bloodshed didn't end in the final episode of the series. Dany (Emilia Clarke) burned King's Landing to the ground, but that left the people who followed her there wondering what to do and whether to leave the Mad Queen on the Iron Throne.

Her quest to the throne led to one major death in the series finale, but here's a recap of who died and who lived in the finale of TV's biggest show.

WHO DIED

DAENERYS: Jon (Kit Harington) took out his beloved when she refused to consider mercy for Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), plus the whole genocide thing. He pretended to be agreeing with her vision of the future but then stabbed her to ensure that Westeros would have a ruler who wouldn't burn everyone who disagreed with them to the ground.

THE THRONE: The chair that lead to thousands of deaths also saw its demise in the final episode. After Drogon realized his mom was dead, he took his fiery breath and destroyed the very thing that led to all the wars on the series (and before it). It was the only way the series could end, to be honest.

Game of Thrones Murdered One Last Character in the Series Finale

WHO LIVED

DROGON: Dany's last remaining dragon mourned his mother by destroying the throne and then flying off with his mother's body. Bran's (Isaac Hempstead Wright) last scene was him declaring that he'd use his warg powers to locate the dragon and ensure he wouldn't be a continuing threat to the people of Westeros.

BRAN: Bran became the new ruler of Westeros, elected by a council of nobles because he was the person who wanted the job the least.

TYRION: Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) was freed after being held prisoner by the Unsullied and made Hand of the King by Bran, to spend the rest of his life "fixing" his previous mistakes.

JON: After killing the love of his life (sorry, Ygritte), a guilt-ridden Jon was banished to the Wall to serve out the rest of his days as a king slayer on the Night's Watch. When he arrived, he met up with a few familiar faces, including Ghost, and journeyed beyond the Wall.

TORMUND: Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) was also one of the familiar faces who met Jon at the Wall. He led Jon and the rest of the Wildlings north of the Wall, putting to rest all hope that he and Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) would ever be a thing. Sad.

BRIENNE (AND OTHERS): Brienne also made it through the carnage. Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, she's serving on Bran's small council alongside Ser Bronn (Jerome Flynn), Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) and Sam (John Bradley).

SANSA: Sansa (Sophie Turner) stuck to her guns and declared the North an independent kingdom from Westeros, which she will rule as queen to ensure the thousands of men in the Northern armies never bend the knee again.

ARYA: Arya (Maisie Williams) said goodbye to her family and set out for an adventurer's life "west of Westeros" since no one knows what's there. In Game of Thrones land, Arya is the one who discovers America. Dope.

GREY WORM: Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), after being disgusted with letting the people responsible for Dany's death live, kept his promise to Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and left for Essos to keep the people of Naath safe.

THE COUNCIL: Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan), the prince of Dorne we've never met before, Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies), Robyn Arryn (Lino Facioli), and Yohn Royce (Rupert Vansittart) also lived and will the high council of lords and ladies responsible for electing a new king if and when Bran dies.
