FX Is "Pretty Optimistic" About Y: The Last Man Adaptation

One show's disappointment can be another's fortune. When Michael Green (Logan) decided to leave his position as executive producer on Starz's American Gods, it left him open to work on his other projects in development.

One of those projects is FX's anticipated adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's Y: The Last Man comic series, of which he was appointed showrunner, and it appears that FX has taken notice. TV Guide asked FX CEO John Landgraf for an update on the development of Y: The Last Man, and things are looking pretty good.

"[We feel] pretty optimistic, not quite at a final decision point," Landgraf told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "But we got a script I really like, a draft we really like recently. Michael is available, because he's not involved in American Gods [anymore]."

That "pretty optimistic" part can probably be translated to "very excited" in exec speak, as they're more prone to keep the progress of projects in development guarded until they're ready to make an announcement. We should also note that Landgraf used similarly positive words when asked about the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC this summer. That show was picked up to series this month.

Y: The Last Man is an Eisner-award winning comic set in a future post-apocalyptic world where all male mammals mysteriously die off except for a man named Yorick and his pet monkey. Congress moves to protect Yorick and save humankind while other groups plot to capture or kill him for their own purposes.
