Sleeping Beauty will woken up from her 100-year slumber and transform from meek princess into fierce warrior in Freeform's new series After, Deadline reports.
Freeform's hour-long drama, currently in development, is based on Rhiannon Thomas' novel A Wicked Thing, which finds Princess Aurora getting the kiss she needs from a handsome prince to break the curse that knocked her out. With her family dead and her kingdom taken away, she's now fighting to get it back.
Veteran writer producer Tom Lynch, who created a number of tween series in the 90s and 2000s including Nickelodeon's The Secret World of Alex Mack and Caitlin's Way, will helm the project. It's the latest take on Sleeping Beauty since Maleficent, the 2014 movie starring Angelia Jolie and Once Upon a Time's twisted take on the tale on ABC — both Disney platforms like Freeform.
