Frances McDormand's Oscar Thief Posted a Bizarre Video with the Statue

In what is perhaps the most bizarre story to come out of this year's Academy Awards, Frances McDormand's Oscar statue was briefly stolen from her table during the Governor's Ball, the official afterparty for the ceremony. The alleged culprit is 47-year-old Terry Bryant who channeled his inner Joanne the Scammer and documented the whole thing on Facebook.

"Got this tonight. This is mine. We got it tonight, baby," he said in a video uploaded to Facebook before kissing the statuette, which McDormand won for her lead performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. After offering up photo ops with the Oscar and inquiring about Jimmy Kimmel's party, Bryant went on to say "I can't believe I got this" before claiming that he won "for music."

According to New York Times culture reporter Cara Buckley, Bryant was then stopped by Wolfgang Puck's photographer before he could get far with the stolen award. "Security at the Governors Ball are looking for this guy, who grabbed Frances McDormand's Oscar and ran out with it. Wolfgang Puck's photographer stopped him, got the Oscar back, and the guy disappeared back into the ball. Apparently Frances has said to let him go. #Oscars #Drama," she tweeted.

Bryant was arrested and booked on felony grand theft charges late last night, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Variety.

In a statement obtained by the trade, McDormand's rep Simon Hall said that she and her Oscar "were happily reunited last night" after the shocking theft.
