Fox News' political Twitter feed was compromised early Monday morning as hackers sent out a barrage of tweets that claimed President Barack Obama had been assassinated, according to The Associated Press.
The tweets suggested the president suffered two fatal gunshot wounds, adding, "It's a sad 4th for #america." The account even offered an encouraging message to Vice President Joe Biden on becoming the new leader of the U.S.
"Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated," Fox News later said on their site. "Those reports are incorrect, of course, and the president is spending the July 4 holiday with his family."
Fox News says the offending tweets were removed by noon Monday and the hacking is being investigated.
