John Wesley Shipp, who played The Flash in the 1990s TV series, has joined the cast of The CW's Flash pilot, TVGuide.com has learned.

The Arrowspin-off centers on scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) who, after a freak accident, is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive. Details on Shipp's role are being kept under wraps, but he has the potential to become a recurring fixture should the pilot be picked up to series.

Shipp joins the previously cast Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Candace Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Rick Cosnett and Carlos Valdes. Based upon characters published by DC Comics, the project comes from Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and DC Chief Geoff Johns.

The original Flash TV show debuted on CBS in 1990 and lasted just one season.
