Soap Diva's New Look
Soap fans know Finola Hughes from the ABC sudsers General Hospital and All My Children. She played twin sisters Anna and Alex Devane. Now, the daytime dish is a fashion policewoman as host of Style's How Do I Look? (Fridays at 9 pm/ET). That means her soap career's over, at least for now.
"I discovered something about a murder that involved the man I was sleeping with," she says with a laugh of her recent AMC exit. "So I left town."
According to Hughes, Look is an ambush makeover show for folks who've "neglected themselves and have got themselves into a stylish rut." Without naming names, could any colleagues on AMC use her help?
"Yes, I do think that there might be some people on soaps that could benefit from my show," she admits. "If you've actually done the '80s once, you really can't keep wearing the clothes. [It] can be trendy if you're 20, but not if you've actually been there."
Like other shows, Look invites the makeover subject's relatives to get in on the action. "People get very angry," Hughes says. "They have reached a point in their lives where they want to change and they don't know how to. It's the first time that they actually listen to [their] family. There's an intervention where somebody says to them, 'You simply cannot look like this anymore.' It comes from love and from somebody that knows them very well. It becomes emotional."
