The First Teaser for the Fantastic Four Reboot Is More Confusing Than Fantastic

What does it all mean?

Did you know there was a Fantastic Four reboot premiering this summer?

It's all right if you forgot this particular factoid. Between the upcoming release of The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron in May, and the 73 other comic book adaptations currently floating around in popular culture, it's easy to forget these things. Especially since we still know next to nothing about the film.

It also doesn't help that the first teaser trailer for the film, which made its way to the internet on Tuesday, did little to explain what it's about. The only dialogue spoken comes in the form of a voiceover about humanity's never-ending quest for knowledge and discovery.

What's new on Netflix in February

If you're not hip to the Fantastic Four lore, the gist is this: Four outsiders are teleported to an alternate universe, which significantly alters their physical form and gives them incredible super powers back in our own world. Well, incredible might be stretching it a bit for Miles Teller's character Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, because super elasticity is exactly as silly as it sounds.

Rounding out the core four are Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Kate Mara as his sister Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bellas Ben Grimm/The Thing. The reboot is a darker and more serious film compared to the 2005 version starring Ioan Gruffudd and a pre-Captain AmericaChris Evans.

Check out the ominous trailer below and then hit the comments with your first impressions!

Fantastic Four hits theaters Friday, Aug. 7, 2015.
