Exclusive: Lifetime Gives More Holiday Cheer to The Hoff's Christmas Consultant

It had all the makings of a holiday camp classic. Lifetime's seasonal TV movie The Christmas Consultant stars David Hasselhoff as a green bow tie-wearing, bespectacled holiday hero who helps an overworked and overstressed family get through December. But after bad reviews and a low-rated Nov. 10 premiere (just 1.5 million viewers), Lifetime quietly began scrubbing additional airings of the TV movie. Pre-emptions included a big Sunday primetime screening on Dec. 2. As a result, The Christmas Consultant wasn't set to air again until Dec. 25 at 6/5c — Christmas night, when presumably fewer viewers are watching TV or too juiced up on nog to appreciate it.

Then a funny thing happened: The Christmas Consultant legitimately turned into this year's holiday camp classic. E!'s The Soupdid an entire segment on some of the movie's and Hasselhoff's goofiest moments. In Los Angeles, KROQ morning show Kevin & Bean devoted a whole segment to it — and the deejays lamented that they had to purchase the movie on iTunes because Lifetime had canceled those previously scheduled airings.

Now, Lifetime has restocked the cheese plate: Thanks to the amount of attention The Christmas Consultant has gotten this month, the movie has landed at least two more airings: Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6/5c, on Lifetime, and Thursday, Dec. 20 at 8/7c on the Lifetime Movie Network.

The network confirms that the decision to Hoff the Halls with more airings came as the pop culture world discovered and glorified The Christmas Consultant's campiness.

The Hoff's performance is, as you might expect, a big, thick slice of holiday ham. The Baywatch legend's character is an overenthusiastic scamp who begins to meddle in the family's affairs as he plots the perfect Christmas. The movie, which also stars Caroline Rhea, is truly Hoff-ful. But does that even matter? The Christmas Consultant has been saved. Happy holidays, America.
