Ex-Blue Boss's Next Move
Last week on the Golden Globes red carpet, TV Guide Online spied former NYPD Blue cast member Esai Morales. He was there with his costars from PBS' Latino drama American Family: Journey of Dreams, which predictably lost to HBO's popular The Life and Death of Peter Sellers in the best miniseries or TV-movie category. Bummer. But at least Morales has been proactive since exiting Blue last year.
"I changed agents, management, everything," the pavement-pounding 43-year-old actor says. "I'm heading back to features and/or great television. My slate is open! I'm looking for the next challenge."
Most recently, Morales wrapped the upcoming CBS original movie Heartless, starring Working Girl Melanie Griffith as a very wicked woman. He's an undercover reporter working as the mole in her midst. "Melanie plays a femme fatale, a lawyer with very few scruples. Imagine that!" he laughs. "She's wonderful in it."
While we're waiting on that treat, any chance Lt. Tony Rodriguez will return for NYPD Blue's farewell episode? "Not that I'm aware of," he sighs. "I loved the show; I loved the experience of it. It was my first real series. But when it comes time to go, you gotta go. I'm looking forward to other things."
