On Friday, William J. Bell — cocreator of the CBS soaps The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful — died of complications from Alzheimer's disease. The Emmy-winning suds legend is survived by wife Lee, with whom he hatched both shows, and three grown children, all working in the family business. (Most recognizable is daughter Lauralee, who grew up playing Christine "Cricket" Blair on Y&R.) For daytime TV's reaction to Bell's passing, read today's Soaps News column.
