Everybody seems to be taking issue with Sunday's Emmys ceremony.
"I didn't see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me," she said in an interview Monday. "... That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?"
Kerry Washington, who was the first African-American woman to be nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 18 years, presented alongside the first woman to be nominated in the same category back in 1969 — Diahann Carroll. However, Washington was not able to make history as the first African-American actress to win in that category — Claire Danes took the trophy.
Scandal's Washington and Pompeo star on series, both by creator Shonda Rhimes, known for their color-blind casting and subsequently ethnically diverse ensembles. "I'm extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast which represents the world that I walk around in every day," Pompeo said.
