Elizabeth Banks to Direct Pitch Perfect Sequel

Elizabeth Banks is stepping behind the camera for a very high-profile project.

The actress, who co-starred in and produced Pitch Perfect, will direct the film's sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This will mark Banks' directorial debut in film. "Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success," Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley told the magazine. "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2."

Kay Cannon, who penned the script for the first film, is writing Pitch Perfect 2. Stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are also expected to return. Banks will co-star in and produce the sequel.

In addition to her roles in films like The Hunger Games franchise and shows such as 30 Rock, Banks has directed several comedic shorts.
