Lucy Liu, Raza Jaffrey

First she got a new nemesis, and then a new rival. Now, Elementary's Joan Watson is getting a lover!

Smash alum Raza Jaffrey has landed a guest-starring role on the CBS drama as the new boyfriend of Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), TVGuide.com has learned.

Elementary Exclusive: Gina Gershon cast as Joan's new nemesis

When Elementary returns, it's been nearly a year since Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) left for London and his new job at MI6. Suffice it to say, Joan is not too pleased with her former partner. Naturally, her new boyfriend Andrew is, in some respects, the anti-Sherlock, an oasis of normalcy in a life still rife with strangeness and drama.

Of course, Sherlock tries to get back in Joan's good graces when he returns to New York, so he'll tread lightly around Andrew in the beginning. But, let's be real, Sherlock can only ever mind his manners for so long.

Elementary Scoop: Lucy Liu to direct an episode this season!

Jaffrey, who recently guest-starred on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and will next star on Homeland, will first appear in the Season 3 premiere, though he has the potential to appear in more. The premiere also features the introduction of Sherlock's new protégé Kitty (newcomer Ophelia Lovibond) and suspected cartel leader Elana March (Gina Gershon), who goes head-to-head with Joan.

Elementary returns Thursday, Oct. 30 at 10/9c on CBS.
