All the Easter Eggs You Missed From 'The Twilight Zone', 'Legacies', 'Game of Thrones', and More

These Easter eggs aren't made of solid chocolate, but they're just as good

Easter eggs aren't just meant for the Easter holiday anymore. Thanks to our ongoing obsessing with finding little things that connect to other things, the term "Easter egg" has grown to include hidden callouts in our favorite television shows. Oh does that episode of Black Mirrorreference another episode of Black Mirror? That's an Easter egg. But Easter eggs aren't just meant to be self reflective -- take Stranger Things, for example, a show that's obsessed with cramming in as many 80's Easter eggs as possible.

Considering that there are so many larger television universes nowadays, it's hard not to include in at least a few Easter eggs here and there during a show's run. So grab some Easter candy you fully plan on saving for yourself, and not hide around the house for others to find, and let's dive into some Easter eggs we've discovered this past year.

The Twilight Zone

While Jordan Peele's reboot of The Twilight Zone is very much its own show, it's definitely paying homage to Rod Serling's iconic 1950s series. Even though we're only a few episodes into the new CBS All Access series, Peele has already found multiple ways to incorporate the original into this new run, whether it be via character names, actual props from Serling's show, or the opening credits. The Vampire Diaries might be gone, but the spirit of it lives on in Legacies, which is also a spin-off of The Originals. So, needless to say, Legacies is stuffed with callouts to both. The CW drama not only includes characters from both shows, but also references all sorts of magic we've previously learned about. The CW ordered a second season of the series earlier this year, so who knows what else from Mystic Falls might crossover. See all the Legacies Easter eggs here.

The Haunting of Hill House, which is based upon the book of the same name, is full of references to the original work, including actual lines of dialogue and text. The show also uses many of the Easter eggs to nod to the book when it needs to cut things for the sake of television, like how Mrs. Dudley (Annabeth Gish) has a much larger role in the novel. The show is coming back for Season 2 with an all new story and a new set of characters, but you can check out all of the Season 1 Easter eggs right here.

Stephen King loves to throw Easter eggs into his own written work, so it's no surprise that the King multiverse loves to do the same thing. Hulu's Castle Rockincludes, but is not limited to, references from IT, Cujo, The Shining, The Green Mile, Storm of the Century, Misery, and Dolores Claiborne. The series also stars Bill Skårsgard, who most recently played Pennywise in IT, and also Sissy Spacek, who played Carrie in Carrie. See all the Easter eggs from Castle Rock's first season.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

Netflix

Stranger Things is an ode to the Duffer Brothers's love of the '80s, which means it's full of '80s things from their childhood. It's like the Duffers decided to challenge themselves to see just how many movies they could reference, and Season 2 is basically just one long homage to Ghostbusters. While we wait to see what Season 3 has in store, check out all of the Stranger Things Easter eggs.

Black Mirror

Netflix's Black Mirror might be the MOST Easter egg-y show on television right now. Not only are the episodes all connected together in varying ways, but they manage to cram in callbacks to episodes from seasons ago while also referencing episodes we haven't watched yet. The series latest episode, the choose your own adventure Bandersnatch, was like a minefield of references. Did you catch every one of Black Mirror's Easter eggs?

The Star Trek franchise already has a long history, and it just got a little bit longer with the addition of CBS All Access' Discovery. With Season 2, the show very clearly connected itself to prior series, introducing a young Spock and Captain Pike. What direction are they boldly going to go with Easter eggs in Season 3? While we wait to find out, read all about the Star Trek: Discovery Easter eggs we've found so far.

As we near the end of our time in Westeros, Game of Thronesis wasting no time in reminding us just how far we've come. Considering we've only got a handful of episodes left of the series forever, the first episode of Season 8 wasted no time in bringing us long-overdue reunions (Gendry calling Arya "m'lady!") and calling back to things we first saw seasons ago.
