Dr. Luke has officially signed on to be the third judge on American Idol, E! Online reports. He'll join returning judge Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez on the panel.

The producer, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, was offered the gig after will.i.am turned it down, E! reports. He is credited as a co-writer and/or producer on hits such as Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" and Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" and "California Gurls."
Idol is returning to a three-judge panel after last year's foursome of Urban, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Careyand Randy Jackson, who is reportedly in talks to replace Jimmy Iovine as a mentor on the show.
