Following a public exchange between Tom Cruise's lawyer and Celebrity Rehab's mild-mannered host, Dr. Drew Pinsky has offered an apology to TC's camp - albeit a constrained one.

His rep says in a statement to People, "Dr. Drew meant no harm to Mr. Cruise and apologizes if his comments were hurtful."

Earlier, Cruise's lawyer compared Pinsky to Nazi Joseph Goebbels, in response to Pinsky's assessment in an Playboy interview that Cruise is an example of a celebrity with "mental illness we can learn from." Pinsky suggested that Cruise's adherence to Scientology is "a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect." In response, Fields told the New York Post, "[Pinsky] seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels."

After the incident, Drew articulated his intentions, tempering the apology in the process: "Under no circumstances is Dr. Drew making a blanket diagnosis about Scientology nor Mr. Cruise whom he does not know. Dr. Drew was simply using Mr. Cruise as an example of someone who is recognizable to help the public understand." What's your take now? Is the throw-down worth writing off, or a serious misuse of power by either party? - Anna Dimond
