Doctor Who has unveiled the Doctor's newest companion!
BBC announced on Saturday that relative newcomer Pearl Mackie will be joining Peter Capaldi in the TARDIS for the show's 10th season. "I'm incredibly excited to be joining the Doctor Who family. It's such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn't be prouder to call the TARDIS my home!" Mackie said in a statement.
Added showrunner Steven Moffat, who is stepping down after next season: "A new face in the TARDIS, a new voyage about to begin: welcome aboard the amazing Pearl Mackie! This is where the story really starts."
Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, who announced last year that she would be exiting Doctor Whoafter four years to star in the PBS/ITV royal drama Victoria. The actress also shared her excitement on Twitter to be joining the Doctor Who family.
