Mickey Mouse is returning to where it all began. The Disney icon and his pals will star in a new series of 19 animated shorts, which will premiere on Disney Channel starting Friday, June 28.

Disney says the new Mickey Mouse shorts will contain contemporary themes, but also pay homage to the art direction and style of the original 1920s and 1930s cartoons.

"By bringing Mickey's comedic adventures to life with vitality, humor, inventiveness and charm, the entire Disney Television Animation team of artists, animators and directors have worked to capture the essence of what Walt Disney himself created 85 years ago," says Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide.

Most recently, Mickey Mouse was the centerpiece of the preschool-driven Disney Junior series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Paul Rudish (Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls) will executive produce the new shorts. Each cartoon takes place in a different setting, such as Santa Monica, New York, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Venice and the Alps. Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto are also a part of the new shorts. A companion online game, "Mickey Delivery Dash," has already launched on Disney.com.
