Diddy Defends Opening Home to Chris Brown and Rihanna, Says They're Going Through a "Dark Time"

Sean "Diddy" Combs said he merely acted as a concerned friend and provided support when he offered his Miami home for Chris Brown and Rihanna to reunite a few weeks after Brown was accused of attacking his superstar girlfriend.
"If I can be there as a friend during hard times, then I'm gonna be there as a friend, but I don't know the exact particulars," the rap mogul said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday. "I'm not gonna do this or do that. It's a dark time for them and I was there more as a support."
Pressed by DeGeneres to "clear something up," Diddy added that he doesn't "think that it's right for anybody to hit anybody," but he believes it's "positive for two people to sit down and talk about a situation that they're in."

Brown, who has been charged with two felonies — assault and making criminal threats — and Rihanna reportedly reconciled at Diddy's home two weeks ago, where Brown was also reported to be laying down tracks for his new album.
"I know both of them and it's my house. I'm allowed to give my house to whoever I want to," Diddy said of the Star Island mansion. "I'm the type of person that I don't cast a stone or cast a judgment on anybody. ... There's a lot of stones being thrown and we don't know exactly what's going on. These are two young individuals. We need to pray for them and we need to give certain support."
Since the weekend at Diddy's, Brown and Rihanna have returned to Los Angeles and have recorded a duet together, according to various outlets. The recording session for the song, about a couple overcoming obstacles, was "very, very emotional ... the feeling in the room was pure love," TMZ reports.
The gossip site also spotted Rihanna out in public for the first time since the Feb. 8 incident. The 21-year-old went clubbing at West Hollywood's Coco de Ville until 4 am Wednesday morning and wore sunglasses the whole time. Brown was not with her.
Brown's next scheduled public appearance is his April 6 arraignment. Although he remains on Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards ballot, the R&B star will not attend the March 28 ceremony and never intended to go before his legal troubles, People reports.
"Chris has been hanging out with Rihanna, working on his music and spending time with and speaking with his mother and pastor," the source said.
Though pressured to remove Brown, 19, from the KCA ballot — an online petition has more than 10,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning — Nickelodeon has not yet budged. Nearly 80 percent of TVGuide.com voters concur with protestors that Brown should be dropped as a nominee, commenting that he is a poor role model for children.
