Lifetime's hit Devious Maids is just going into its second season, but does the juicy prime-time drama already have to worry about a name change? After all, when the series returns for Season 2 on Sunday (10/9c), not one, but two of the women will have packed their feather dusters (seemingly) for good. "We worry about that all the time and you will understand just how worried we are as the season progresses," executive producer Sabrina Wind tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "Let's just say maybe not everybody keeps their role." So what else is coming up for Marisol, Carmen, Rosie, Zoila and their employers in 90210 this year? Read on to find out:
Duarte Suarez (Ana Ortiz)
Where Were We: The Stappords' maid revealed her true identity as a professor and as the mother of the boy arrested and charged with Flora's murder. Thanks in large part to the vindictive Powells, Philippe (Stephen Collins) "confessed" to the crime right before his death and her son went free.
What's Next: "Marisol has found the man of her dreams and the question is: 'Is he really all that he's cracked up to be or not?'" Wind says. "She will have followed her dreams somewhat impulsively and she has to figure out whether or not that was the right decision." Her dream man, played by Mark Deklin, will also have a mysterious maid named Opal (Joanna P. Adler), who is "quite an interesting foil" for Marisol. "We thought it would be fun for Marisol to have a maid now that she is not one," Wind says. "This woman is a challenge, but we definitely wanted her to be so texturally completely different than any of the other maids of the show." Marisol's new life and these new people will also tie into this season's central mystery. "We really wanted to do something very different than last year's mystery that we're hoping will be equally compelling," Wind says. "Last year it was: 'Who killed Flora?' and this year it's: 'What the hell happened?'"
Evelyn and Adrian Powell (Rebecca Wisocky and Tom Irwin)
Where Were We: After Evelyn discovered Adrian's affair with Flora, the couple appeared headed for divorce... that is, until they figured out the truth about Philippe and decided to team up to expose him and kill him. Nothing brings a couple back together quite like a framed suicide, right?
What's Next: Sadly — or maybe delightfully — this crazy twosome's emotional stability won't stick for long. "They are on a very different track," Wind says. "Last year, they were in a very dark place and now that aspect of their relationship has been resolved and they found each other again for a short period of time. Then in the first episode, we find a whole new way to drive them apart."
Rosie Falta (Dania Ramirez)
Where Were We: Despite her deep love for her boss Spence (Grant Show), and vice-versa, Rosie refused to marry him because his wife, Peri (Mariana Klaveno), helped bring her son to America. However, when Peri got wind of their affair, she called immigration, who hauled Rosie away in the final moments of the season finale.
What's Next: Spoiler alert! Rosie is still in the United States and still on the show. "She stays on the edge of deportation," Wind says. "That was a lot of research and legal inquires for us to find out what we could possibly do to let her continue on the deportation track without necessarily being deported." One bright spot in this midst of this dirty battle will be Rosie's deportation lawyer, who find her a new job. "He has her working with his family and with him," Wind says. So will sparks fly as well? "Maybe, although no matter what, Rosie and Spence are not necessarily over either," Wind says. "Spence has made certain choices in the three months when he thought she had been deported that create complications for them." Although Wind admits it was a bit tricky figuring out how to keep Spence and Peri in the mix after Peri's discovery, "we just knew that we had to figure out a way to make it work for ourselves because we love them so much, and for our fans who seem to have taken to them so much." So how long will it take for everyone to know that Peri knows? "You don't have to wait long," Wind teases.
Zoila and Valentina Diaz (Judy Reyes and Edy Ganem)
Where Were We: The close-knit mother-daughter duo were severely strained after Zoila pushed Remi (Drew Van Acker) to go to Africa sans Valentina and then confessed to her daughter about what she did.
What's Next: "They do not mend those fences quickly, which is nice because there are some big breaches of trust in that relationship no matter how much it was done with love," Wind says. "They are working on trying to evolve this relationship, although both of them are pretty stubborn about what their point of view is." Although Zoila's controlling ways already backfired on her once, her behavior won't change so quickly. "Zoila makes choices that she thinks are the right ones for her family and they blow up in her face," Wind says. "While dealing with the repercussions of that, great things start to happen for her." There will also be happy news for Valentina, who will have someone new in her life competing for her affection.
Genevieve Delatour (Susan Lucci)
Where Were We: Hours before she was set to tie the knot for the fourth time, her son Remi ran off to Africa and her fiancé Philippe "committed suicide." Talk about a bad day!
What's Next: Zoila may have been the one to encourage Genevieve's son to run off to Africa, but the two "actually come to a much happier, even closer, even more fun place than they were last year," Wind says. So will there also be someone else making the boss happy, like perhaps a new man? "We do not have an immediate romantic relationship for Genevieve," Wind says. "She is instead getting herself in trouble in all sorts of other ways."
Carmen Luna (Roselyn Sanchez)
Where Were We: Carmen agreed to move in with Sam... but before she could start (not) packing, Alejandro (Matt Cedeño) asked her to be his wife for two years to cover up his homosexuality. In return, Carmen would finally get to show the world her musical talents. It was an offer she couldn't refuse, much to chagrin of Odessa (Melinda Paige Hamilton), who had misguided feelings for Alejandro.
What's Next: Carmen's new life, as the soon-to-be-wife of a Latin pop star, isn't as glamorous as it may seem, especially since her former co-worker and now-maid Odessa isn't exactly eager to do her laundry. "The challenges are both from in the house, as we played at the end of the last season, Odessa isn't very unhappy about this arrangement," Wind says. Also not helping things is Alejandro himself. "Maybe hiding his sexuality is not the easiest for him and Alejandro might be having second thoughts," she says.
The new season of Devious Maids premieres Sunday at 10/9c on Lifetime.
