Food Network star Adam Gertler is jumping to rival cable network Destination America, where he's been named host of the new food reality contest Last Call Food Brawl.
In the show, which Destination America will announce Thursday, Gertler will travel to different American cities and challenge four chefs (working at a range of eateries from 24-hour diners to high-end establishments) to compete in a cook off to find "the king of the late night bites." Dishes that might pop up include deep fried bacon chili cheeseburger rolls and peanut butter s'more fresh toast balls. Winner receives the "Golden Fry Basket."
"Richness is key," Gertler says of what he looks for in late night eats. "Cheese, stacked and fried are all key late night food terms, but 'crispy' is code for 'fried,' for people who don't want to admit that they're eating fried food."
For Season 1, the show traveled to New Orleans, Austin, Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville and Panama City. "The subject matter is close to my heart," Gertler says. "I'm perpetually looking for great food late at night in whatever city I happen to be in. I get to stuff my face seven times an episode and talk about it with cool chefs and food people at the same time."
Gertler was a finalist on Food Network's Food Network Star and later worked on Food Bites and Kid in a Candy Store.
