"She's a badass," Messing tells us in the video below. "I love that she is the top of her game at work, she doesn't care what she looks like, she is deeply in love with her sons [and] no matter what kind of torture they do on the school or the babysitter or whatever, she always has their back."
On the new NBC series, Messing plays a New York City homicide detective struggling to balance her demanding job with her hectic life at home with rambunctious twin boys and a soon-to-be ex-husband, Jake (Josh Lucas), who cheated yet doesn't want a divorce. And just like their characters, the two have differing views on their future, especially when Jake becomes her new boss.
"It's a complete nightmare," Messing says. "It's going to be hell. I mean, she's trying to get away from him 24/7, she wants to divorce him and now he'll be there night and day. And I think Laura [is] territorial of her workplace, so for him to come in and be her superior — forget about it, it's going to be rough." Lucas, on the other hand, couldn't disagree more. "It's going to be wonderful," he says. "It's going to be so nice to go to work with her everyday."
