Despite initial reports to the contrary, ABC's canceled series Body of Proof will not find a new home on cable, creator Matt Gross said last week. But fans can rest assured that Tuesday's finale provides a "satisfying ending" to the story, according to star Dana Delany.

Among the story lines that get wrapped up is medical examiner Megan Hunt (Delany) finding out whether her father really did commit suicide after she exhumes his body. "It's a very satisfying ending," Delany tells TVGuide.com. "We do solve the mystery of the death of Megan's father and she finally comes to terms with her feelings for Tommy Sullivan (Mark Valley). And I really, really liked it a lot. ... I think that the viewers are going to be happy."

Will Body of Proof move to cable?

The ending to Season 3 had been mapped out before ABC officially axed the series, Delany said. "I think that everyone in television now knows you need to end your season, because you never know the future of a show, unless you're Mad Men," she quips.

Though several cable networks, including TNT and USA, reportedly expressed interest in picking up Proof, Gross said last week that the show is officially over.

"Valiant effort from #abc studios to sell #bodyofproof to another net, Sad to report there will not be a season 4 TOD 5:24pm 5-22-13 RIP," Gross tweeted Thursday. "We tried, tried and tried. No stone left unturned-No one wanted to keep this show on the air more than #abc studios & me-We're all bummed."

But, according to Delany, the ending is so conclusive that the show's cast and crew weren't sure where the story would have gone had Body of Proof survived.

"The fans have all been really great about rallying around the show," she says. "We have a very loyal fan base. ... But no matter what happens, I'm really glad to have had the chance to do it."
