CW Renews Three Dramas, Orders The Flash, iZombie and More

The CW has picked up four new series for next season, including Rob Thomas'iZombie and the Arrow spin-off The Flash, TVGuide.com has learned. The network also ordered Jane the Virgin and The Messengers.

The CW has picked up four new series for next season, including Rob Thomas' iZombie and the Arrow spin-off The Flash, TVGuide.com has learned. The network also ordered Jane the Virgin and The Messengers.

 iZombie features a med student-turned-zombie (Rose McIver) who takes a job in the coroner's office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But when she starts inheriting the corpse's memories, she teams up with her medical-examiner boss (Rahul Kohli) and a police detective (Malcom Goodwin) to solve homicide cases. Veronica MarsThomas and Diane Ruggiero will write and executive-produce the series, based on the DC Comics series. Robert BuckleyDavid AndersNora Dunn and Alexandra Krosney will also star.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, a scientist who is given the power of super-speed after a freak accident that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive. The series comes from Greg BerlantiAndrew Kreisbergand DC Chief Geoff Johns. Jesse L. MartinTom Cavanagh, Candace Patton, Danielle PanabakerRick CosnettCarlos ValdesMichelle Harrison, Patrick Sabongui and John Wesley Shipp will also star. (Both The Flash andiZombie were featured on TVGuide.com's list of promising pilots.)

Based on a Venezuelan telenovela, Jane the Virgin is about a hard-working, religious young Latina woman (Gina Rodriguez) who is accidentally artificially inseminated. Jaime CamilJustin BaldoniRyan Devlin, Yael Grobglas, Brett Dier, Andrea Navedo and Ivonne Coll will also star. 90210's Jennie Snyder Urman will write and executive-produce the series.

When a mysterious object crashes to Earth on The Messengers, a group of seemingly unconnected strangers die from the energy pulse, but then awaken to learn that they have assigned the task of preventing the impending Apocalypse. The Expendables producer Basil Iwanyk will executive-produce with Teen Wolf writer Eoghan O'Donnell. Diogo MorgadoShantel VanSantenSofia Black-D'Elia, Jon Fletcher, Craig FrankLane Garrison and Joel Courtney will star.

The CW also announced renewals for freshman drama The 100Hart of Dixieand Beauty and the Beast . They join previously announced returning showsThe Vampire Diaries, Arrow, Supernatural, Reign and The Originals.

Star-Crossed, The Carrie Diaries, and The Tomorrow People will not return next season.
