The CW Signs Five-Year Licensing Agreement With Hulu

On the heels of its four-year streaming deal with Netflix, The CW has signed a five-year licensing agreement with Hulu for the right to stream current season episodes, the network announced Friday.

Beginning later this year, The CW's current fall shows -- Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Nikita, Gossip Girl, Ringer, Hart of Dixie, 90210, The Secret Circle and America's Next Top Model -- will be available through the free, ad-supported Hulu and subscription-service Hulu Plus. Sorry, no love for the short-lived H8R.

Hulu Plus will carry the five most recent episodes, which will be available the next day after broadcast, whereas non-paying Hulu users will have to wait eight days after an episode airs in order to watch those same episodes.

"As we increase the amount of year-round original programming on The CW, this deal provides our shows with greater exposure on a new platform, helping build even more awareness that will drive viewers back to the network and its affiliates," said CW chief Mark Pedowitz. "We see this as a win for everyone involved, the network, the stations, Hulu and ultimately, the viewers."

That means viewers can catch up on old episodes of the series on Netflix and then watch the current season on Hulu and never turn on their TVs again.
