Fox's upcoming hip-hop drama Empire has added a very famous musician to its roster, but it's not a conventional choice by any means.

Courtney Love is set to recur on the midseason series as Elle Dallas, a hard rock powerhouse and a member of Empire Entertainment's stable of artists, Fox announced Thursday.

TV wigs: Trick or treat?

From The Butler director Lee Daniels and the film's writer, Danny Strong, Empire is a unique family drama set amidst a hip-hop empire, which stars Terrence Howard as a charismatic music superstar who's about to take his company public and Taraji P. Henson as his ex-wife and former business partner who is fresh out of jail.

The Golden Globe nominee is also set to appear in a multi-episode arc on the final season of Sons of Anarchy, which is currently airing on FX. She joins previously announced guest stars Naomi Campbell, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Gabourey Sidibe, Derek Luke and Judd Nelson.

Empire will premiere in January on Fox. Are you excited to see Love on the series?
