Coby Bell has slipped with the greatest of ease into the role of Jesse Porter on Burn Notice (Thursdays, 9/8c, USA), a counterintelligence expert who's joined the do-gooder trio of Michael, Fi and Sam after being inadvertently burned by Michael. Chatting with the hunky Third Watch vet, we get the sneaking suspicion the superspy role comes kind of naturally. Here's why.
Multitasking is no problem for him. As the father of two (count them!) sets of twins, Bell juggles his family life in Long Beach and a busy Burn Notice schedule that requires him to film in Miami. "I'm getting a lot of frequent-flyer miles," he laughs...as he feeds one of his young'uns.
He's surrounded by a bevy of beautiful babes. Not only is Bell's wife, Aviss, a knockout, but his character, Jesse, gets to engage in a little harmless flirting with sexy Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) and Bell promises "some really fun scenes" with Numb3rs actress Navi Rawat, who begins a three-episode arc tonight.
He learned from the best. A fan of Magnum, P.I. and The A-Team growing up, Bell is thrilled to be part of a show that, like those '80s classics, offers something for everybody: "Action, cool spy stuff, great drama and comedy. Burn Notice has its own quirky tone—that's what I really like about it."
Duh, he's an actor! Dressing up in disguise and pretending to be somebody else is part of the espionage game, so, obviously, being an actor is a useful skill to have. Bell will be allowed to stretch his comedic muscles once again in September when he begins shooting a new season of The Game, the canceled CW sitcom that will live to see another day on BET.
