Jake 2.0 Hero Turns TV M.D.

Can you believe Harrison, the high-school geek from WB's Popular, is all grown up? His portrayer, Christopher Gorham, turned 30 this year. He's got a wife and two kids. He also has another well-liked but short-lived series under his belt, UPN's bionic-boy show, Jake 2.0.

"I never got a reason why we were canceled, really, except that the numbers weren't what UPN wanted them to be," he tells TV Guide Online. "I got a call on the morning we were to shoot Episode 16. I was leaving the gym, getting ready for work and [the producers] called with the bad news. But we still ended up getting to shoot that last episode, which is great. There are four episodes that have not aired in the States, and it kills me because they're the four best episodes we did!"

Well, just in case there's a Jake 2.0 DVD release — and TV sci-fi fans are clamoring for it — what was in those lost episodes? "There's an episode called 'Blackout' and one called 'Get Foley.' These two episodes were like a two-hour movie where DuMont comes back, captures Jake and erases his memory so he has amnesia," he says. "Then, DuMont convinces Jake that he's been a prisoner of the NSA all this time, that they've done experiments on him and that's why he has powers — so [Jake's bosses look like] the bad guys.

"Jake escapes DuMont, and he's out on the streets with no idea who he is," Gorham continues. "He finds out the NSA has listed him as an armed and dangerous felon, but that's only because they want to find him. But he thinks this means he's a terrible guy, and he gets involved in a fight club for money. It's so cool."

While Gorham's fans are waiting to see all that, they can catch him this fall in NBC's Medical Investigation. He'll play Miles McCabe, the show's youngest M.D. "The sad and great irony of Jake 2.0 is that getting canceled when we were allowed me to come and be on this show," he says. "If we had finished the season and then gotten canceled, then I'd probably have been out of a job for a year because I'd have missed pilot season."
